Anonymous asked: I decided to stop trying to pull off a feminine appearance. I stashed away all my jewelry and wear only t-shirts and jeans. I’m tired of trying to be pretty because it never works. However, whenever I’m getting ready to leave the house, I ponder how I’m going to impress boys. It’s entirely hypocritical and really wish I would stop.
While it’s fine and I say all the more power to you if you don’t want a feminine appearance, make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and you’re solidly happy with it. Remember that skirts, blouses, long hair and makeup don’t make you less of a feminist or stand less for equality. Also, ‘giving up’ is not the best reason to stop dressing feminine. So what if you don’t fit a commercial standard of beauty, that doesn’t make you not pretty. I rarely wear makeup because I don’t know what the hell I’m doing it, but I don’t get down on myself because of that. So, I’ll go barefaced, whatever, but I don’t feel like I’ve lost at trying to be pretty. Pretty isn’t defined by makeup, jewelry and skirts. It isn’t defined by looking like one of the girls on tumblr or on TV. Pretty is owning who you are, what you love and your personality. It’s owning yourself in skirts, makeup, jeans, or an entirely ‘boy’ outfit. Impress boys with your mind, your extreme knowledge of starwars, and your fabulous disposition, not your clothes. Clothes come off (literally or metaphorically) and you have to use your mind and your personality to keep a boy hooked. It’s the same for him too. You can only spend so long with an attractive, well dressed man who can’t hold a conversation.
